FAQ’s

Q:            I’ve never been a security officer before, is it necessary for me to get training before I get a job?

Most companies will hire you without any prior security training; in some jurisdictions there is not even a requirement that you possess a security guard license prior to employment in the field.  However, we believe there are many benefits to taking our Basic and Advanced Security Officer courses:

  • You become a much more attractive applicant to any security guard company you apply with, therefore increasing your chances of landing that job your interviewing for
  • You protect yourself from future liability suits.  At some point in your career in the security field you will likely have to take some type of enforcement action.  If you get sued for doing your job (which trust me happens all of the time) our experts will be available to testify on your behalf in any civil proceedings
  • And most importantly – You just may learn something (or a lot of things) that may someday SAVE YOUR LIFE!

Q:            Do I get my Security Guard License in MD, DC or VA once I take the Blueline class?

No, taking the Security Officer courses does NOT mean you will automatically get your security license. In Security Officer I we will walk you through step-by-step what it takes to get your unarmed and armed licenses in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. In all three (3) jurisdictions you must be employed by a security company in order to obtain your license.

Q:             If I take the courses will I get hired by Blueline Security Services?

NO, taking the courses does not guarantee you a job with Blueline Security Services. Although I will tell you that we give preference to those applicants that have already been through our training program.  Additionally, any security company you apply with will most likely rank you higher among their applicants if you have already been trained and are certified in things such as CPR/AED, First Aid, ASP Baton, and OC Spray.

Q:            Will I have to actually participate in the classes or can I just sit back and listen?

You are free to participate in as much of or as little of the activities presented during the course of one of our classes.  Keep in mind though that for certain classes in order to be certified in a particular tactic or tool by our trainers, you will have to demonstrate a proficiency in that particular aspect of the class.  For example, if you want to be certified in the use of an ASP Baton or OC Spray, you will have to actively participate in those classes to get the certificate.

Q:            I want to schedule a class for my employees on a topic that is related to  the security and safety field but is not on your list of courses, what should I do?

We would be pleased to put together a curriculum for the course you are thinking of.  Simply click on this “Security Training Request”, fill out the short form and submit.  We will get back to you shortly with the availability and pricing for the course.

Q:            Do I have to pre-pay when I sign up for the course or can I pay when I show up for the class?

We ask that all students pay for the course they are signing up for at the time they schedule it, in rare instances we will allow a student to pay on the day of class but the following applies:

    • There is a $25 fee added to the cost of the course for those that have not paid the course tuition 48 hours prior to the start of class
    • There is a 5 person minimum in order for a scheduled class to take place.  Unfortunately we cannot count any unpaid students toward that minimum.  So if there are 4 people signed up for the class that have all pre-paid and you are the 5th attendee who has to pay on the day of the class, the class will NOT go forward until at least one additional fully paid student signs up

Q:            I sent my security officer employees through your Defensive Tactics course; recently we were notified that our company and our employee are being sued for a physical altercation that happened on one of our job sites.  What if anything can the Blueline Security Groups do?

Our training director will review the incident and work along with your attorney in determining if the officer acted in a manner consistent with what he/she was taught at our facility.  Assuming they did we will provide Expert Testimony on behalf of both you and your employee in defending the lawsuit.
